In local news, Harold Weinbrecht beat out incumbent Mayer Ernie McAlister with a 16 percent point win. This is especially impressive because Weinbrecht had only raised $16,000 compared to MCAlister’s $108,000, almost a 7:1 more. Weinbrecht has attributed this to grassroots campaigning (yay, grassroots!). The biggest issue was growth. Under Mayor McAlister’s guidance, Cary had opened the floodgates for development. This has created an atmosphere of overcrowding in schools, increased traffic in key intersections and overall decrease in the quality of life. While most people agree that growth is necessary, people believe that growth needs to be moderated. Public infrastructure and services need to be in place to accomodate this growth in order to preserve the character that makes Cary so attractive.
This is a new direction for the Town of Cary.
I voted for the other guy.
